What Good Is Hypnotic Writing?

by Louis R Burns

You’ve probably heard of hypnotic writing by now… how it can magically suck cash right out of peoples’ pockets, right? In this article, I want to dispel some myths of hypnotic writing and tell you what it can really do.

In any marketing promo there are three parts that experienced marketers realize contribute to the response: the list, the offer and the copy.

The list is the group of people you’re marketing to. The best list is one you created yourself and that you have an ongoing relationship with. It’s possible that you have more than one list to more than one market. That’s where the next item comes in.

Whatever you’re promoting is the offer. It make a substantial difference if you offer pet supplies to an inappropriate list of coffee affectionados. If you offered a pet product to a pet list you still need to make sure the rest of your offer is good. How’s the product? The price? The payment options? In addition to the list and offer, you need…

Great copywriting. Even hypnotic copywriting. If you have a great offer for the right people but they can’t understand why they should buy it… they probably won’t. That’s where hypnotic writing comes in.

Many people think hypnosis is about tricking people while they’re asleep… or something like that. Hypnosis is simply a state of heightened awareness. That awareness is usually inwardly focused though which is why people trance out. Hypnosis can help people make changes under certain circumstances. You can’t make anyone do anything they would be against while awake.

Modern hypnosis works because it gently makes suggestions that allow the subconscious to do what the conscious wanted it to do. Can hypnotic writing then make it easier for people to buy? Definitely… as long as that’s what they otherwise would want to do. If you do manage to trick people into buying, you’ll have more than your fair share of returns and angry ex-customers. Obviously that’s not good for long term business.

As long as you’re using hypnotic writing ethically, you’ll boost your sales. Remember though that the list and the offer need to be there before much cash can start flowing your way.
